Dos Amigos has years of experience taking care of all types of turf. Regardless of whether your lawn is Fescue, Bermuda, Zoysia, Blue Grass or a mixture of many grasses, Dos Amigos can develop a tailored plan to help you attain the beautiful lawn you have always desired. Our Turf Manager, Trey Wilson has more than twenty years of turf experience operating programs for all of the turf types mentioned above. Before joining Dos Amigos, Trey spent much of his career with Farmington Country Club and also Keswick Hotel and Club.
The following is an example of a Nine (9) step turf program that has been highly successful for many of our clients who have a cool season grass in their lawn such as Fescue (note that the program below is NOT designed for warm season turf grass such as Bermuda, Zoysia, etc.):
Step One: Soil Sample
Dos Amigos will take a soil sample and within about two weeks, the results will arrive. Based upon the results, we will develop a program specific to your lawn and begin to apply nutrients, compost, etc. as dictated by the Soil Sample results.
Step Two: Round One-Pre and Post Emergent with Fertilizer (March)
Our turf team will spray a pre and post emergent herbicide as well as a liquid fertilizer. The pre-emergent will deter any new weeds from germinating while the post-emergence will affect the weeds that exist at the time of this application
Step Three: Round Two-Pre and Post Emergent with Fertilizer (April/May)
Our turf team will repeat the same steps in Step Two approximately 30 to 45 days after Step Two is completed.
Step Four: Spot Spray with Post Emergent
This step involves a spot application of a post-emergent herbicide to kill weeds that may have not been addressed in Step 2 or Step 3. This application will be completed in June.
Step Five: Spot Spray with Post Emergent
This step involves a spot application of a post-emergent herbicide to kill weeds that may have not been addressed in Step 2 or Step 3. This application will be completed in July.
Step Six: Spot Spray with Post Emergent
Same process as Step Four and Step Five – Completed in August
Step Seven: Aeration, Seed and Fertilizer
Aeration is completed in the fall of the year. This process involves our team aerating your lawn, applying a starter fertilizer and then overseeding your lawn with high quality Fescue seed.
Step Eight: Winter Fertilizer
We would be back about 30 days after the Aeration process has been completed and apply approximately 1.0 pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. The nitrogen is applied by using a fertilizer like 25-0-5 or a similar product.
Step Nine: Winter Lime
Albemarle County and surrounding counties are well known for acidic soil. Dos Amigos would apply Dolomitic Lime at a rate of 12 lbs. per 1,000 square feet. Depending on the results of the Soil Sample, this step may have to be repeated again in 30 to 45 days to help correct the pH balance of your lawn.
Why so many steps?????
The BIGGEST difference in our approach versus many other turf programs is that we take a soil sample. We want to know the status of your lawn before we start applying products that may not be needed or applying incorrect products in the wrong amounts.
Secondly, many other turf programs apply lime at the time of aeration. Dos Amigos does not believe that applying lime at the time of aeration is smart as it may be too hot for lime to be applied. We would rather take the time to come back when the temperature has dropped, the turf is going dormant because the purpose of applying lime is to change the makeup of the soil, not change the turf.
Mowing, Trimming and Edging.
Dos Amigos takes care of commercial properties, residences and estates. As part of our Turf Care Program, we provide scheduled mowing services, which includes mowing, edging, weed-eating and clearing off all hard surfaces. Regardless of whether you want weekly service or service every ten days, Dos Amigos works with each client to sculpt a program for you.
